Troyes, designated City of Art and History.
Troyes is located in France, in the western part of the Grand Est region, in the center of the Aube department - of which it is the capital. The commune extends in the plain of chalky Champagne, near the country of Othe and the country of Armance. This city of alluvial plain is established in the valley of the Seine.
In Troyes, art is not confined within four walls. It has taken to the streets, and the public space continues to be filled with statues as part of urban regeneration projects.
In recent years, contemporary works of art have flourished on the renovated quays of the Seine, quickly establishing themselves as visitors' favourites (see our aside on "Un cœur gros comme ça").
The renovation of the Place Saint-Nizier, in front of the church of the same name, has also led to the installation of works by three sculptors from the Aube: the powerful Oreste taking refuge at the altar of Pallas, by Pierre-Charles Simart; the delicate Florentine Singer by Paul Dubois (an adolescent playing the mandolin in a graceful pose) and Child at the Fountain by Alfred Boucher, his pupil.
These are three casts made from model plaster casts held at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Troyes.
Let yourself be seduced by the authenticity.
